So, here it is. My first foray into the world of blogging. This blog will chronicle the highs and lows, successes and failures of my online exploits, some of which are purely for my benefit and others are hopefully a force for good all round…

So who am I, and how did i get here?

Those are questions I often ask myself, but i’ll save the deep philosophical musings for another post, or maybe even another blog entirely!

I’m Terry, I’m a child of the eighties and I’m currently working for the NHS where I’m trying develop a website that is useful for our Mental Health patients and our staff. Its a tough job, especially as I’m expected to go it alone! More on this later…

The web has always intrigued me ever since I saw a feature on a BBC Tomorrow’s World program that promised a revolution in the form of the “Information Superhighway” - “Yeah, right I thought, just like they promised flying cars and robot slaves by the year 2000!”. Even at that young age I could see limitless potential should it ever happen. Little did I know that it was already a reality and, years later during my first year at university in 2001, I became very interested in the web. Since then I have spent every day reading something new about the web - subscribing to numerous blogs on all sorts of topics, from programming to marketing and everything in between!

I have built many small sites for local clients, but ended up wasting a good deal of time, effort, and money on tyre-kickers and non-paying clients so I have decided not to offer those services anymore as I just wasn’t enjoying it. I have lost count of the times when i have spent maybe 5 hours on a proposal that comes within the client’s budget only for them to tell me that they no longer had the money, or that the web wasn’t a priority. I wouldn’t mind so much if these people had then just chosen another web designer, but many of them would simply just not bother!

So, now I’m going to devote my working time to Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust and building myself a residual income through developing and monetizing my own web sites. This blog will be a chronicle of the trials and tribulations I face while doing so. I hope you find it interesting but most of all I hope its useful and that you might be able to learn from my experiences. If you have something useful to add or have a question to ask, please feel free to add a comment at the bottom of each post.
